Monica’s Story

Site created on May 1, 2018

In the Summer of 1997 Monica was diagnosed with  Anca Positive Vasculitis with Nephrotic Syndrome. ANCA vasculitis is a type of auto immune swelling caused by autoantibodies. Autoantibodies are abnormal antibodies that attack ones’s own cells and tissues. Nephuratic Syndrome is a rare kidney disease that causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine.

In June of 2000 Monica recieved a kidney transplant. For the last 18 years she has celebrated the gift of life her Aunt Laura gave her. Her kidney has taken cruises and traveled around the United States, been to a more then a few Cardinals Baseball games, and it is also a huge fan of the theatre!

As ACT I ends Monica’s kidney has taken the stage for the last time, the curtains have closed, and the intermission has started. She is currently in the process of finding a new kidney. During this time Monica has been receiving dialysis three times a week. Dialysis is the process of removing excess water, solutes, and toxins from the blood in those whose kidneys have lost the ability to perform the function on their own.

While anxiously waiting for ACT II to begin Monica has had to take time off of work. A work week for Monica is typically 60+ hours a week. Having to take time off of work, medical expenses, and living expenses has left a huge financial burden on Monica.

We have created a Go Fund Me page for donations for anyone who would like to help alleviate some of the financial burden Monica is facing. We have also included links if you would like to learn more information about the National Kidney Foundation or how to become an organ donor if you aren’t one already! You can find all this by clicking “Ways To Help” at the top.

Thank you all for your love and support. We will keep everyone updated with any new information as the intermission continues and until the lights dim giving the “take your seats” cue!

Please share help us share Monica’s story with your family and friends.
