Lucy and I visited Monica on Wednesday and she is definitely making progress. When we got to her floor we found her in her chair placed near the nurses office. Apparently, Monica not only tries to take off her helmet, but she has been trying to stand up without assistance! I looked over at her whole the nurses were telling me this, and Monica had a mischievous look on her face. She seemed so happy to have Lucy on her lap, and they cuddled the entire time. Monica kept patting Lucy’s belly, and I acknowledged that yes, maybe Lucy is putting on a little weight. Monica is  trying hard to communicate and it seems to me she really wants to talk. When it was time to go, I felt sad  about taking Lucy away from her. I’ve attached a few pictures ~ note Monica’s beautiful manicure!

Dear Monica,

Belated birthday wishes to you! You are much loved and admired at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and we are all rooting for you. I miss reading about your exploits on Instagram but appreciate the Caring Bridge updates.

All my very best wishes, Megan

Dear Monica, if I could visit, I would sit with you and read Pete the Cat beginning readers to you until you got out of bed just to make me stop! But I can’t, so I’m going to sit at home and read really good picture books and beam their genius at you.
You are so strong. Rest and recuperate and we’ll see each other soon!
much love,
:paula
