Early this year I had a routine screening mammogram that was flagged for review. After going in for more tests and biopsies on January 26, 2021, I was diagnosed with two types of breast cancer; Invasive Ductile Carcinoma (IDC) and Ductile Carcinoma Insitu (DCIS). Many additional tests including MRIs, CT scans, and comprehensive genetic testing led to the discovery that I carry the PALB2 breast cancer gene mutation. Armed with that information, the course of action I felt the most peace following was to plan for a bilateral mastectomy. At 7:30 a.m. on April 13, I am schedule to have concurrent surgeries; bilateral mastectomy immediately followed by tissue transfer reconstruction. These surgeries will take place at Abbott Northwestern hospital in Minneapolis under the same anesthesia episode and are estimated to take eight+ hours followed by five days recovery in hospital and eight weeks off work recovering at home.
Please agree with me in prayer for God's supernatural peace to guard and garrison about my heart and the hearts of my children; Ashley, Grant, Evangeline (Evan), and Henry. For us not to have the spirit of fear, but of power, love and of sound minds. Lifting up my surgeons, Dr. Annie Callahan (surgical oncologist) and Dr. David Ruebeck (reconstructive surgeon), and all medical staff I come in contact with at Abbott for wisdom, anointed hands, and abundant grace.
