M.L.’s Story

Site created on June 30, 2021

As many of you know M.L. fell and hit her head about 5 weeks ago. There was a small brain-bleed that was healed after a few days. Our many friends and family have wanted to stay in touch with her recovery. So, to facilitate that I have set up this “Caring Bridge” page to keep everyone informed of her progress and so that you an continue walking alongside us.

Sometime in the last week or so the bleeding started again. On Monday, 6/28, she started having trouble with her speech and we rushed to an ER. A CT-scan found a hematoma that was causing an irritation to the speech area of the brain. They operated to fix it late Tuesday afternoon. The surgery was successful, and she is recovering nicely.

The good news was that she did NOT have a stroke nor any brain traumas. The surgery went exactly as planned with no surprises. They drained the area and started the process to heal the bleeding. Her speech is returning to normal, and she is already starting to walk around. She will start some other therapies in the next few days.

Now I need to turn my focus to M.L.’s rehabilitation and return home. Please allow me to use this conduit post updates of her health and progress as well as stay connected to you all.

Your support and friendship strengthens the two of us, as it always has. We will be leaning on that in the days to come.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Michael Zabinski

Yesterday was a good day. M.L. met with her neurosurgeon and reviewed the latest CT Scan results. The blood pooling around her speech center is almost completely gone. There are some traces left nearby that are just part of the regular healing and are not a concern.

M.L.'s speech therapist has moved her up to more challenging exercises. M.L.'s progress has been very good and she is able to talk longer without getting fatigued. She Also has been successful in completing more difficult and complex multi-syllabic exercises as well.

M.L. is feeling strong enough to start scheduling her own visits. Feel free to reach out to either of us in the future.

We are still limiting the number of visits to 1 per day but the vusits are a great part of her recovery therapy.

Thanks to you all for the great notes and support.
