Journal entry by Grace Foor —
Hello friends and family! I wanted to give an update on Nathaniel’s progress. Nathaniel has been home from the NICU for 4 weeks! After 112 days in the NICU, he came home on April 28th, one day before his due date. Most micro-premies require NICU care at least until their due date, usually much longer, so this is just another sign of how amazingly well Nathaniel has matured and healed since his birth.
He currently weighs about 9 pounds and has been enjoying home life. He got to meet his Grandpap and me (Aunt G) and we have both been making up for lost time by snuggling him often! He has been to several doctors appointments for various things such as the cardiologist, pediatrician, neurologist, retinal specialist, etc. Everything is looking good so far. Nathaniel’s doctors have even called him “advanced” despite his prematurity! But he will require continued close follow up with all of his physicians as well as developmental care for the first several years of his life. We are so proud of his strength.
It has been so amazing getting to see Missy in action with Nathaniel. She is truly a super mom and I am so impressed with her strength through it all. I also want to give a shout-out to my Mom, Nathaniel’s Grammy for being such a huge help with all of his needs. I think I can speak for Missy and say that she is incredibly grateful for her support. We are overjoyed that Nathaniel is home and are so excited to be starting this new chapter of our lives.
