Journal entry by Rhett Bransfield

Hello dear friends and loved ones.  Below is the sequence of events up until today.

The Bransfield twins were born on June 20th  (Judah Gabriel @ at 9:50 am, weighing 2 lbs 6 oz) and (Jayden Michael @ 9:51 am weighing 1 lb 15 oz) which was 28 weeks and 5 days gestation.  Full term of a normal single baby pregnancy would be 40 weeks, which puts the boys arrival about 3 months early.  We knew that twins normally come a little early so we were expecting them to come about 37 - 38 weeks.  Because they are identical twins, and shared the same placenta, there was a risk of them getting something commonly called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome = one baby is getting too much blood from placenta, and one baby not enough.  This was present with the boys and because of it, Judah's heart rate started to weaken. Further complications presented themselves which led to an emergency C section. Thankfully Melisa was already being monitored and was checked in to the hospital the night before.  The babies have had an uphill journey so far between getting the TTTS issue under control, to them both having lung disease (underdeveloped).

We know the boys are in the hands of the Lord and with much prayer they both seem to be overcoming their first month in the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN They both are gaining weight and continue to grow stronger every day. We continue to ask for your prayers as there are still obstacles to overcome.
