Journal entry by Rinki Etheridge

Imagine getting an electric shock which shakes your entire body and causes excruciating pain, and knowing this is going to happen again and again but there is nothing you can do about it.

Nov 24th night, we were awake whole night. Mikey got numerous such shocks. We tried stretching exercises, massage gun, heating pad etc. Nothing worked. These shocks were followed by high fever. He took Tylenol, but didn't get any relief. He tried to sleep several times but every-time he woke up by a shocking pain. It was 7 am in the morning, he decided to go to the lab to check for calcium and lactic acid level prescribed by his Dr. On our way to the lab which is just 5 mins drive, he had 9 episodes of pain attacks in his leg.

After his lab, we decided to go to the ER. They took Xray of his leg, but couldn't find the exact root cause. They described it as Neuropathic pain and prescribed him gabapentin. We were hoping that the medication will give him some relief and he will be able to sleep, but looks like nothing is working for him.

He is in pain all the time and the intensity of the pain is same every-time. He had fever of 102.2 degrees last night which went away after couple of hours of taking Tylenol but came back again in the morning with 100.9 degrees. His Nephrologist is concerned about the fever. He is suspecting the last surgery (performed on Oct 21st to remove his urethra) caused UTI. We will try to get it tested tomorrow. Also, we are planning to see a Neurologist (hoping to get an appointment soon).

Pain, fever, headache, high blood pressure, fatigue, lack of appetite, everything at the same time. How much one needs to endure? Is this fair for someone to face all these problems at this early age?

He is currently seeing 10 specialists, unfortunately we have to add 1 more to the list. It's so frustrating. I wish I could do something to make his life better. I wish he is able to sleep tonight without any pain and fever.
