Journal entry by Kevin Prendergast —
The day has finally come--Mike is going home tomorrow! We have been hearing this could happen for a while now, but wanted to wait until it was a certainty to announce it. Tomorrow, Wednesday, he's coming home and as far as Mike is concerned, it's about time!
He will be continuing to receive therapy at On With Life, a wonderful brain trauma facility right in his neighborhood and various family members will be staying with him to provide support while Tracey is at work. He has been looking forward to getting back into a normal life at home and no doubt has some projects in mind. He knows he needs to move slowly and carefully for a while.
He's scheduled to have the feeding tube removed later this week (not being used for feeding any more) and then he'll have to let it heal over another couple of weeks. Some time after that, he may be able to get back in the pool to begin some short swimming workouts--he talks about his a lot!
The bills are beginning to come due as his initial care is winding down and now some other expenses for ongoing care are beginning to come to light. If you would like to donate, you can go to GoFundMe.com and search for Mike Walters. Thank you to all who have donated so graciously to help ease the financial stress of his care and related expenses!
Please offer a prayer of thanksgiving for Mike as we have all been praying for this day to come! And please continue to pray for Mike's continuing recovery from home. Pray also for Tracey, his family and those who will be staying with him and supporting him during the next couple of weeks. So happy this day has come!
