Journal entry by Debbie Stoeffler

Its hard to believe but Mike has been home for almost 4 weeks now! He has done very well adjusting to the flow of our house and is learning how to be as independent as he can be , especially  now that I need to return to work a couple days a week. I'm sending a big thank you to family and friends (Steve and Steve!) that have helped me out with appointments or just spending time with Mike while I had to work- You have been a God send to me because it keeps me worry free - Mike is not out of the woods yet, and I feel better knowing Mike is with you! I have set up cues for him around the house  to make it easier for him to find his way around. He  is continuing to heal and improve, but still has a way to go. He says he has regained about 60-70% of his eye sight , but still doesn't see color well or fine detail. so if you approach Mike in public let him know who you are because he may not  recognize  you right away, unless you have a real distinct voice, or he's been around you a lot  lately. He continues to keep up his positive attitude; which I think has really been helpful in his recovery. Mike also goes to out patient rehab 3x a week . He has PT and OT and has undergone numerous tests since he's been out of the hospital. I feel sometimes like its our second  home! We keep up  with his therapy at home...we walk almost every day, sometimes twice a day... and I try to come up with different ways to give his eyes and his brain a work out...I have him read , write, sort objects, numbers, letters, etc. I think in another life I would have really enjoyed this as a profession! A big thank you  again to all you that have kept Mike in your prayers, and in your thoughts by sending him cards and calling...texting is a bit tricky because he's not able to see that fine print (Yet!) so its better to call him. So I will close with that...sincerely, Debbie
