Mike’s Story

Site created on March 22, 2018

Mike was in a severe car accident early Sunday morning March 18th, 2018. His truck rolled over and he was pinned in his truck. Thanks to a few good samaritans and heros who were at the right place at the right time, was able to pull him from his burning truck just before the whole truck was engulfed. He quickly applied his EMS training and placed a tourniquet on his almost severed right arm. Thankfully the accident was a few miles away from the best Trauma Center in San Antonio, Brooke Army Medical Center, where he currently is now. They have been working diligently to save his right arm and restore him back to complete health. He has received an excessive amount of injuries however, Doctors continue to share with us how surprised and pleased they are with his strong vitals. He has a long road ahead and right now we are in need of many prayers for the multiple procedures he is in need of to save his right arm.

For everyone that knows Mike, he is one heck of a strong guy and it is definitely showing in how awesome he's fighting through this. We will continue to keep updates on this page for all who are interested in knowing his progress and to join us in praying intently for his recovery of mind, body and spirit. God bless you all who have already joined us in praying and for all the support you have provided to our family. We also ask that you keep his wife, Valerie and their two small children, Mike Jr. and Leya in your prayers.

Many thanks,
The Macias and Purser Family

Journal entry by Valerie Purser

Mike has been accepted to The Rehab on base called Center for the Intrepid and will be getting PT and OT again along with many other appointments for nutrition and support. Being a civilian,  it took a little more work and time.

With that said, they doctors have said that this is rare and he is only the 2nd person in Texas and 11th in the country for this type of reattachment. Currently, they are pleased with how his arm is healing and that he is getting lots of nerve pain. Still no feeling to touch or movement but hopefully it will come with time.
