Journal entry by mike capistrant —
I had a phone conference with the radiation oncologist. We discussed the treatment modalities left to me. One is to use radiation therapy along with a mild oral chemo. The only other option is to do nothing and just monitor the tumor and do more chemo if/when the tumor starts to grow/spread. I chose radiation therapy with the oral chemo.
The CT I had last week didn't show any other cancer sites and my blood cancer markers were normal. So these are good signs for radiation treatment.
The radiation oncologist wants me to get an MRI first. After that I'll gat a treatment scan so the tumor can be targeted more effectively. The actual radiation treatment will take about five and a half weeks. I will get a treatment once a day, five days a week. There will be twenty eight treatment sessions. Each session takes about ten to fifteen minutes. There are some side effects from the radiation treatment such as nausea and diarrhea but these can be controlled by medications. I may have some trouble with fatigue as well.
I have heard from the radiation treatment staff and the MRI and treatment scan have been scheduled for next week. I look forward to getting the treatment started.
