Mike’s Story
Welcome to Mike's CaringBridge website. It is where we will keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

In February of 2018, Mike took a bad fall that gave him a concussion and a bad bump on his head.  A trip to the emergency room and a follow up doctor's visit revealed a swollen lymph node in Mike's neck.  In March of 2018, Mike was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, which spread to lymph nodes in the neck and it is not known where the cancer first formed in the body.  Please keep Mike in your prayers during this difficult time.  Thank you!

Journal entry by Graeme Braithwaite

All the labor Mike has been doing this summer has been fighting cancer.  He has been back home for just over a month.  He has had to change his diet to pureed foods as his swallowing is still a problem.  His most recent swallow test did not go as he'd hoped and he will continue mostly on pureed foods, but will keep up with swallowing exercises to hopefully improve before his next test.  If he can pass the test, he can get the feeding tube taken out which he isn't using, but is there just in case.

Mike is still struggling to make ends meet with not having worked all summer.  His medical bills are numerous and navigating that landscape is tough in more ways than just financially.

The good news is that Mike has been cleared by the doctor to return to work.  He has a start date the day after Labor Day, September 4th. So truly a happy Labor Day.  He will take it slow and in smaller chunks at first to see how he does.  Please pray for him.

He wishes you all well and prays for you all.  May God bless you all.
