Mike’s Story

Site created on April 8, 2018

Welcome to Mike's CaringBridge website. It is where we will keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

This has been a really challenging year for Mike in a lot of ways.  In February of 2018, Mike took a bad fall that gave him a concussion and a bad bump on his head.  A trip to the emergency room and a follow-up doctor's visit revealed a swollen lymph node in Mike's neck.  In March of 2018, Mike was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, which spread to lymph nodes in the neck and it is not known where cancer first formed in the body.  Mike went through a surgery and a round of radiation that kept him for working for about 3 months.  Mike was just beginning to come back from this when he was told by his Dr that he needed to have a shoulder replacement surgery.  This surgery occurred in mid-February and he is now recovering from this.   After Mikes surgery, he was sent to a care facility to recover.  He was there for about a month before going home.  He recently found out that his insurance is not covering his stay in the facility and on top of this he is not able to work currently.

Journal entry by Eve Kaldahl

Mike had a shoulder replacement surgery in mid-February.  He was in the hospital for about a week and then he was sent to a nursing home to rehab.  He was there for about 3 weeks and then went to the house of a friend to help him recover a bit more before going home.  It has been challenging for Mike because he has limited use of his left arm, so he is learning how to take care of himself with only one arm.  He has been determined to be able to take care of his own needs and return home.  He has been doing exercises several times per day and will begin doing physical therapy after he sees the Doctor on April 1st.    Please keep Mike in your prayers
