Mikayla was admitted to VCU Children's Hospital in late February complaining of difficulty breathing.   Previously, she had been treated for a lump on her neck by her primary care doctor and given antibiotics.  Had the lump been biopsied we would have known what the Emergency Room physicians later told us -- the words that no parent wants to hear.  Mikayla has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's Disease.  Hodgkin's is a blood cancer and while it is more rare than Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, it responds very well to treatment and has an excellent cure rate.  Mikayla has begun a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment protocol with the goal of sending her cancer into remission.  She is being treated at Massey Cancer Center at VCU Children's Hospital.
