Mickey’s Story

Site created on February 26, 2020

Mickey was hospitalized on Friday February 21 where they discovered fluid in the pericardial sac around his heart. This eventually led to a diagnosis of lung cancer (adenocarcinoma - NSCLC). He is now being treated at Shands UF Health Center and is thankfully being treated by a targeted therapy for his specific cancer type - something we are hopeful will be well tolerated and effective until a cure or even more effective treatment is discovered.

Dearest Friends and Family,

It is hard to believe that a year has gone by since we lost our Captain, and beloved husband, dad and Poppa. We know from the many cards, calls, and messages we all have received in the past 12 months how many of you have shared in feeling our loss. The most commonly used terms in describing Mickey were "mensch". "true gentleman", and "just a wonderful caring human being". The loss we have all felt has been profound, but he remains with us in spirit. Nobody loved his family and friends more than Mickey, and we all still feel that love every day and will always treasure our many memories. For those who were fortunate enough to have been blessed with Mickey's love and friendship, his memory will always truly be a blessing!
