************

It was the first part of May when Michelle discovered a lump, and by the middle of May we learned she had breast cancer.

She was scheduled for surgery the 21st of May to remove it. Then... Boom! Boom! Boom! Our heads are still trying to digest all we have heard and are learning.

The surgery went very well and Michelle was released the same day (to our horrified, amazement!) She was so strong and brave as she came home to heal. And now her fight journey continues...

Journal entry by Carol Reeves

Team Michelle is doing well and the team is at work now. On Friday, Michelle’s reconstruction surgery went a little longer than we had anticipated, but we knew her surgeon was taking good care of her. There was a little "superficial correction" which he was hoping to fix in her right armpit where they had removed some lymph nodes last May. So cosmetically she'd been bummed (compounded by all the other adjustments to her body!) and we were thankful that the doctor was willing to do what he could to fix that space too. We got her settled back at home Friday evening, where she had some toast and juice for dinner. Michelle and Michael have been camped out in their living room on the couch recliners, as she is more comfortable being a little elevated for now and doesn't have to manage the stairs. The pain is relatively mild and seems to be under control. We are happy that we are nearby again and can help out when needed, especially while Michael is at work and/or the boys are at school. We'll return to San Rafael on Wednesday afternoon for her first post-op appointment, and expect her strength to endure as she heals through this last chapter. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
