Michelle’s Story

Site created on December 27, 2020

🦋 Hi-it’s me, reaching out to friends and family.  With all that’s been going on with the holidays & the pandemic, I really didn’t want to add to the list of how bad 2020 has affected all of those we know, and on a personal note...how it’s affected 🙋🏼‍♀️me.   I have a 2nd surgery Dec 28th at Mercy Hospital, and I’m calling all prayer warriors to pray hard for my journey of Multi-Focal Papillary Thyroid Cancer. Yes, it’s hard for me to ask for help and admit I’m in need of support and healing. I have created this caringbridge account and thought it would be the best way to communcate the journey of what has been happening and what will be happening. For those of you that I’ve filled in with my diagnosis and that have been praying for me-I want to thank you from the bottom of my ❤️.  I plan on BEING THE  STORM and beating this “C”!  I have a great prognosis at this point, and we caught it early!  I have full confidence in my endocrinologist, surgeon, and my team who are caring for me and have a great plan of attack. I’m lucky that I have a supportive family that’ll be by my side and of course YOU-MY WARRIORS! 💪🏻

I made up a very sarcastic “12 Days of 2020” song (think 12 days of Christmas...)🤣 but decided not to subject everyone’s Christmas with my negative humor. Maybe I’ll post it on caringbridge.  In the meantime I’ll keep you posted on CB and will dig deep in my courage well for my treatment journey.  🦋

Journal entry by Michelle Herrick

I made it through isolation week and had my body scan at Mercy on Friday, Feb. 19. It took about an hour and Bryan went with me.   I was anxious-but got through it fine. We celebrated afterwards by picking up breakfast at one of our favorite places (which I would later regret that afternoon-still having diet issues😬).  It tasted SOO good!  I was extremely happy to get through last week and jump through that difficult week. 🥊  I still have residual effects of the treatment with dry mouth, fatigue and nausea, but everyday I get a bit better!   On Thursday I was able to get an appointment for Saturday for my first Covid19 vaccine at a Walgreens!!  This made me the happiest girl.  It was a lot physically with all the healing I’m doing to go do the vaccine-but I just wanted to get it over with and get on with anything I need to do to get more freedom in my life!  I had no problem with the vaccine, and just a slight sore arm. Only really hurt to the touch.  💪🏻  Here’s the BEST news though!  I received my scan results today and it was found that “there is no new findings of distant metastasis disease”!!!  The Dr said it was the most normal,  perfect scan that you would want after the surgery and RAI!  The part of the report that I like most was the last line that said, “there is no evidence for additional disease burden “... what wonderful words!
🙏🏻🎉🍾💯🎊💥🌹🌞.
I’m encouraged and hopeful that I can continue to heal and start a new chapter in my life. I will have Dr follow-ups and I’m sure medicine adjustments, along with tests every 6 months, but right now I am ready to be a SURVIVOR  and thankful this cancer was caught early...that I followed my intuition to continue to seek answers. I cannot thank all my warriors who prayed for me and will continue to walk this journey with me!  I am beyond blessed, and do not take lightly all of you who reached out to lift me up in my time of need!  Love ❤️ you all!!
