Michael’s Story

Site created on July 8, 2018

On Thursday July 5th, Mundo and Lisa were injured in a motorcycle accident on Montague and Kendall Road. They were both transferred to Rockford Memorial/ Mercy Health Hospital. Both were conscious at the time of the scene. Lisa suffered major road rash, a broken left wrist, and a broken right foot. As of now, none of these injuries need surgery and she is still in the hospital recovering. She is accepting visitors throughout the day.

Mundo was transported to the Emergency Room with severe injuries to his right leg and chest. On the scene, Mundo was diagnosing his injuries to the first responders (surprise, surprise!). At the scene, he was sedated by medical personnel, intubated, given fluids, and was transported to the hospital. Once admitted and assessed, Mundo was taken back to surgery to stabilize his leg and evaluate all his injuries. Currently, he is in the ICU and is sedated on the ventilator with a chest tube to keep allowing his body to heal. Tentatively, he is scheduled for another surgery early this week. At this time, the nursing staff is recommending to the family that he have no visitors. Please be respectful of the family's wishes during this hard time.

The family would like to thank Win-Ber-Sew and Byron Fire departments, Winnebago County Sherriff's department, REACT, MD-1, and all bystanders who assisted. The family would also like to thank the hospital staff and Chaplins who are providing care and guidance.

Journal entry by Lisa Mund

Good afternoon...Mike is home and doing excellent! They had him standing up last night and walking with a walker today.  Obviously, he is sore but feeling great.  His leg looks straight, we’re regulating his pain, and he’s resting comfortably at home. He begins physical therapy this week and will follow up with the doctor in a couple weeks. Hopefully, this is the final chapter!  Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support and prayers the last two years.  It’s been quite the journey and we couldn’t have gotten through it without our friends, family, and followers.  ❤️

Love,
Mike, Lisa, and Logan 💕
