Countdown to Shepherd Center Discharge!

A quick note to thank everyone who sent Michael such heartfelt notes of encouragement posted here and sent to Shepherd Center. We’ve included images of just a few stacks and shout out to Jessica for the incredible paper flower arrangement, which will be cherished forever!

Michael is eternally grateful for your support and prayers (as well as fabulous collection of pet pictures you posted with your comments).  As mentioned on a previous post, we would announce when Michael is discharged from Shepherd Center...

Tax Day - April 15!

(at least, it was tax day pre-pandemic)

On April 15, Michael will move into a transitional home in Atlanta with one of the greatest (and currently anonymous) human being/caretakers  on planet earth.  If you’ve delayed in sending Michael anything in the post, please pop it in the nail by this weekend to ensure it arrives before discharge. Michael will continue to read the comments you post here on CaringBridge.

We’re wondering - do you have any show or movie recommendations for Michael? He enjoys British humor, history, cars, antiques, and classic pictures.

Thank you kindly xo

    4/24/21
  • Annie J : Oh Michael I am so glad you have finally made it to the point of rehab!! That’s a really big step!! Now come in some more hard stuff. Your Brit so you can handle it! Stiff upper lip and all that. But seriously anything worth having is worth working for. Not too long ago I was attacked by five thugs outside my hospital. I’m pretty sure they thought they killed me when they left. But I am stubborn, and I kept saying not today! I’ve gone through all the rehab you can imagine, and some days are harder than others. But I can tell you now I am up walking with the help of a service dog and I’m able to do so much more than I was. Mostly because I design my own program at home because I ran out of money paying through lousy insurance. But as it sounds you are in an excellent place/facility! I may have lost a lot, and probably will lose my home to, (which scares you know what out of me) but I have never lost my faith in God and in miracles! Being homeless is the scariest thing I could possibly think of. I should not have lived through that attack but I did. You could’ve died, but you didn’t. We, I say “we “ because we are still going through this together. If one day you can’t do some thing, there’s always tomorrow. One day at a time, that’s what I say, one day at a time. Pretty soon you’ll start to see that you can do more than you thought. I have been praying for you ever since I heard. God hears our voices as well as yours. He knows every tear we shed. Every hair on our head. Because we both made it through something horrific, I believe God is not done with us. He has a plan. And I believe his plans might even be better than we ever thought possible. Many times I thought I used to be a hero saving people‘s lives, now look at me. But lately I’ve been thinking God is not done with me. God is not done with you. I am Norwegian And we are stoic people, so I don’t know a lot about that stiff upper lip stuff, but I know a lot about perseverance. After all I am a nurse! I have had to give that up because of my traumatic brain injury. That brings me great sadness. So I have had to be my own nurse and come up with plans for my own recovery. So far so good my friend! Sometimes if we want to do something right have to do it ourselves . It’s the PTSD part that I think I struggle the most. We all have struggles. Some harder than others. So I hope my dear new friend that you were able to enjoy some sunshine and some new friends at your next transitional place. I call it transitional because I believe you will come home some day. And that my friend will be a glorious day! Find some thing in every day that brings you joy. Every day I write down three things that brought me joy . We are both alive for some reason. God will reveal that to us when it’s time. So for now my new friend, enjoy your day, and meet new friends, and get some sunshine on that face. I will never give up on you, and neither will God. Continued prayers for my new friend Michael. I am so excited about your transitioning to learn new things and get better at the things you’re already doing. Have a blessed day my friend, From your friend Annie J from Minnesota. PS my German Shorthair pointer Service dog sends a hug and smooch. I wish I knew how to send a picture of him do you. Big hugs!!
    4/23/21

If you're not familiar with Men in Kilts, it stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish (both from Outlander), as they tour Scotland together. Those two Scots are quite the pair! You might enjoy it. They're pretty entertaining. Cheers to a speedy recovery! 🙏
