Dear Michael, your surgery tomorrow, on the Feast of the Visitation, will find your Vis Sisters "visiting you" in faith, hope and loving prayer. I know you appreciate Wendell Berry, so I leave you tonight with this short poem of his : Whatever happens, those who have learned to love one another have made their way to the lasting world and will not leave, whatever happens..."

We are all living in that paradox between running and surrendering. Thanks for sharing your childhood memory. It touched my heart. To everything there is a Season...and a time for every purpose under Heaven!

Oh, Michael. So many ups and downs in all of our lives, creating high high mountains and low low valleys. I too ran from a shot at age 5 when Dr. Hershel Kaufman‘s office was on 25th and Hennepin Avenue South. I kicked the doctor, jumped off the table, ran out the front door of the office and out onto the sidewalk. I got dragged back and held down. I continue to applaud your example of building community and spreading love. Wishing you and the family the greatest possible comfort.

Today as I gently pulled weeds that were woven into our front yard perennials and gently pruned our rosebush, I imagined your surgeon tomorrow with great skill doing the same task, but with your brain. Along with grace from the Master Gardener, your surgeon will gently select what is unhealthy, not viable nor necessary for your/our sanctification. A few times, I pulled a leaf or two of the healthy plant along with the weed, yet this does not stop the plant from growing and flourishing. You are in good hands Michael and we send our prayers for a successful surgery and recovery. Love and a big hug from Chris and Trish. As you enter the next 24 hours, remember the “trust hold” we had you in several years back on your birthday!
