Journal entry by Cathy, Dana, Leah Bentfield —
Good evening Michael's CaringBridge family and friends! It's been a few weeks since our last update, but a lot has been happening and it's the kind of "stuff" that made this year's Thanksgiving one of exceptional gratitude.
After getting back to his apartment on November 13th, Michael has been working on readjusting to life outside of the hospital and transitional care facility (aka nursing home). I don't think he would tell you it's been easy, but he's facing the challenges and adjusting as needed.
Michael has begun the prosthesis process (and believe me it IS a process!) and each trip to Tilges Prosthetics in Maplewood shows progress and promise. He has also begun intense physical therapy at Regions Hospital's outpatient rehab facility, and the therapists we have met there have been nothing short of phenomenal! The care shown and the expertise and attention to detail shown by both of these teams of professionals has made an impression on Michael and the lucky mom who's been allowed to accompany him during sessions. We know he is in the best of hands during this portion of his road to recovery.
Check out the photos below!
The first one is before his first PT appointment at Regions - Michael was to transport his temporary leg to the PT session, but insisted on putting it on in the parking ramp for a photo! (Bending the rules already... getting back to his old self I guess)
I had to zoom in on the smile.... It says it all!!!
So much to be thankful for, and your support, love and prayers are part of that.
Enjoy the season everyone!
Love from the Bentfield family
(OK - so the photos don't seem to want to transfer correctly, but if you go to the gallery and click to expand the photos loaded tonight, you'll see what I'm talking about!)
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Michael's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
