Michael’s Story

Site created on August 19, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. After testing several different ways to easily share Michael's journey back to health with family and friends on an ongoing basis, we finally decided that this would be the easiest for the most amount of folks to access. For anyone hearing for the first time Michael was diagnosed with Seminoma cancer a few weeks ago after a CT scan for an unrelated issue, followed by a PET Scan.  Michael shared that for as much as he doesn't support GM (General Motors), he'd rather have a Chevy Nova than Seminoma :)

The  infusion port was successfully put in last Tuesday and we spent a wonderful extended weekend in Charleston, with Jenn and Wallace, doing some of our favorite things. Food, walks on the beach, making Dragon Con costumes and learning cribbage. Tomorrow we start his 9 week regimen of chemo in the  morning.  It is an aggressive approach-  5 days a week for 9 weeks -with an expectation of a full recovery at the end.

Please keep Michael in your thoughts and prayers, and I will keep you updated, as he works through through the next 9 weeks.

Journal entry by Kathy Adkins

The results are in from the biopsy Monday.... drum roll.... NO SIGN OF CANCER...the mass showing on the last PET is inflammation and scar tissue. No need for radiation and Dr Fernando is comfortable we got this beat. Next time we need to see him will be in July when we will do another PET to monitor things.

Tonight we are both in a bit of a--did all that really happen.. now its just over.. odd emotional place. It's very similar to the shock we had when we got the diagnosis 6 months ago.. but this time it's over, not starting, and the tears you are holding back are happy ones.

We can never ever ever be able to thank you properly for all the endless love, support and prayers over these past months. Himself would not be here without you all. So tonight we will say how thankful and blessed to have all of you in our lives.

Moving forward -we look forward to getting his lungs working better, continuing our journey together into whatever the next chapter of our abynormal life has in store for us and sharing more good news as it happens.

And as the survivor thru all of this I am indeed most thankful for everyone's support, but it would be an injustice to not shine the light on my amazing bride.  She has coached me, pushed me, encouraged me and done everything possible to make this journey successful.  I hope to have many more years together to repay and rejoice.  I am a very lucky fella.

Cheers to all!
Michael
