Journal entry by Doug Dallmann

Merrick was released from Mayo this morning and everyone is back home. I did a little reading on pancreatitis when I got back, and considering a severe case can result in a hospital stay of over a week, the fact that Merrick was there for a little over 48 hours means he did well.

Mayo wants a follow-up visit to check up on Merrick, but we’re hoping this is it as far as peeling back the layers on his PSC diagnosis and that Merrick can “just be” now.

One thing I failed to mention in yesterday’s post was that while they were doing ERCP procedure on Thursday, they had an ultrasound going on at the same time and as soon as they put the stent in, his gall bladder deflated back down to its normal size. So that’s some really good news. The fact that they had to put a stent in due to a stricture doesn’t jive with we’ve heard from the doctors that everything is just fine and that Merrick’s PSC is in the early phases, but we’re going to just chalk this up episode up as a blip on the radar. He’s still getting monitored regularly enough and we’re now aware of all of the symptoms that we should be able to stay in front of things.

Hopefully it’s just boring and infrequent health updates for a good long stretch now.

Thanks to everyone who has been reaching out and expressing their concern and support Merrick.
