Journal entry by Whitney Courtney Pruetting

Hello everyone,

Mel has officially been home for two weeks now. Last weekend we had a parade for her with family and a few friends to celebrate her being home. It hasn’t been an easy two weeks for my parents or Mel unfortunately. It is quite a change for everyone that we are all trying to get acclimated to. Mel got her feeding tube removed yesterday which will hopefully make her a lot more comfortable! We are working on getting her an electric wheelchair still as she has limited mobility in her right arm and none in her left arm to be able to manually wheel herself around. She is now going from a laying down position to pushing herself up to sitting 100% by herself which is huge progress. Wound care is coming to the house a few times a week to monitor her sores and to help heal them. She is currently on a waiting list for a home health nurse and for outpatient therapy at NKC. My mom and dad have been working very hard to take care of her and make her comfortable day in and day out. Although we still have a long road to go she is making progress and still fighting hard to regain a lot of what she lost in the hospital. Please continue your prayers, well wishes, and good vibes. Much love to you all!
