Megan’s Story

Site created on June 13, 2021

Megan, after 15 years of helping patients and families navigate the challenges associated with their oncology and transplant journeys at Penn and CHOP, is now in the midst of her own war with breast cancer.  You have been invited into this space due to the kindness and concern you’ve already demonstrated and the relationships you’ve established with this amazing woman, her husband Aaron, their children Josh & Juliana, as well as the Rusk & Atkinson families.

Journal entry by Megan Atkinson

Thank you again for your continued support.  I am a week into my  maintenance treatment taking two pills.  One I will take for 5 years that is the anti hormone therapy and the other is for 1 year and is specific for my brca mutation.  this is more like an oral chemo.  My side effects have been similar except no hair loss :).  I hear after a few weeks to months you get adjusted to the medicine and find ways to manage the side effects.  I sure hope so!  I'm excited to be heading back to work at CHOP on April 11th.  I am blessed every day by my team of doctors, family, friends, church and those of you that I don't even know.  Thank you.
