Chris’s Story

Site created on November 19, 2020

Hi! Welcome to our caring bridge site where we will post updates on Chris' journey.  Chris was diagnosed in the summer of 2018 with Chronic Kidney disease.  From that point, his kidneys continued to decline and we found out in April 2020 that he had entered end stage renal failure, which means that his kidneys were operating at or below 8%.  He began dialysis in June 2020 and we immediately started the process of getting him on various kidney transplant lists.  The Lord has blessed us by providing someone to be a living kidney donor to Chris.  We are in awe of God's provision for Chris and we can't wait to share with you how God works in his life.  Thanks for stopping by!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Chris McKinney

I went for my 6 month post transplant check up today. The Doctors are very pleased with my progress. The numbers used to gauge my progress/health are all very good.   I feel stronger and my mind is clearer. Thankfully, Matt (my donor) is doing well too.  He is healing well, & is able to work again.

I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you how we made it through (& I would say, flourished through) all of this. God has been so gracious to me. About 20 years ago, through the prayers and faithful truth-telling of several Godly men; I heard the truth that God gave His son Jesus to die so that I might be forgiven for the sins that I have committed.   After believing that Jesus died for me I was delivered out of my  darkness and have walked in God’s light since.
He has been a good Father to me since. God himself orchestrated that my donor and I should meet, have many things in common, not the least of which is our faith in Christ Jesus. He surrounded me with good friends through my church & work who have prayed and provided for me. God bolstered me with his Words (the Bible), and comforted me with His presence when I prayed. God provided me with a beautiful and caring wife who walked faithfully beside me through all of this.  God blessed me with my sweet daughter whose love and kindness are sweet to my soul. He also provided me with knowledgeable and kind Doctors, Nurses, Coordinators, etc who nursed me back to health. I am thankful for all of the people who cared for me, but  my greatest thanks goes to God who has loved me so well.

Humbly,
Chris
