So, I thought I was off the hook for updating everyone about mom. After my last entry on July 1 Maxine was doing so well & becoming more independent. But since she has not written an update, here I am again because there is more to tell......
After the CAT scan during her last visit, they thought they saw a possible infection in per pelvis bone. We have been waiting for the results and since she was feeling good and no follow up calls for over a week, we thought it was nothing.... but they found an infection in her pelvis based from the call on Monday 7/8 and in a tricky location too! It is between the bone & the mess used to hold her together from the surgery. The Dr. prescribed an antibiotic which will take at least 6-8 weeks to be effective & would give her more time to heal & get stronger, then have her come in for a procedure to scrape away where the infection was to eliminate it completely. This was all tentative while waiting to hear from the infection control Dr. on his thoughts on how to proceed.
There was talk of Maxine coming home to AZ for the 6-8 weeks under care of a local Dr. and then fly back for evaluation.
But we didn't get that too far as she took a turn for the worse on Thursday 7/11(Mike's 50th B-day) and required heavy antibiotics immediately.  I haven't heard today if she is feeling better, if she wasn't she was going back to the hospital!
