Journal entry by Taryn O'Morrow

I feel like we came full circle today.

As Matt and I were running errands I saw a familiar face in Home Depot. Tobi, Matts case worker from UVM, was in line a few checkout stations away from us. Matt tried to waive at her but she didn’t recognize him until I walked up beside him. The last time she saw us Matt was still stuck in a hospital bed, now he’s walking around on his own, the only aid a brace you can’t see when he wears full pants/jeans. She was so excited and you could see the joy on her face despite the mask she was wearing. We got to tell her that Matt is back to work full time and doing really well. She put her hands together and looked up as if she was saying “Thank you” and we wished each other a Happy Thanksgiving.

Matt has completed his Work Hardening Therapy, slowly working up his time at work until he was given permission to work full time just last week and though he’s definitely feeling the extra hours it’s going pretty well so far. He will be back to managing his store in Williston come the week after Thanksgiving and his team is excited to have him back.

This will be the first holiday season we get to spend with family sans a wheelchair or any other visible aid. It has been over 2 years since the accident and we are so grateful for the progress Matt has made. I would personally consider him as good as he’s going to get minus minor improvements I hope he will see in the feeling and control of his left ankle & foot. He sees Dr Talley December 16th and we will go from there.

May your holiday season be full of time with loved ones, joy, laughter and peace. God bless each and every one of you.
