Newest Update

Journal entry by Mary Miller

It's been a while since I've updated, but frankly, I haven't been having a very good time.  Today was the second infusion of the Avistan.  Normally that would be rather quick, but not me.  No - I have to take 2 hours to pee into a little cup.I don't know if it was everyone watching me or not, but I sure was having a difficult time with it.  I'm not sure but I think everyone cheered when I was able to produce that little bit of pee.  The Avistan is certainly easier on the body than the chemo was.  So far there doesn't seem to be any side effects to worry about.  My pain level had increased to the point where at times it's unbearable.  To help that end they are sending me to radiation.  I will have 10 sessions.  First goal is to shrink the tumor and relieve the pressure.  Opinion seems to be that will really help with the pain levels.  it is also hoped that the radiation will stop the bleeding  There are some perks to getting old.  Not having to deal with periods is one of them.  This coming from me as I enter week 7 of the mother of all periods.  I start radiation on Wednesday, April 4 and it will be 10 consecutive work days.  Really really keeping my finger crossed on this one because the pain is really wearing me down.  I have finally agreed to meet with a pallative care doctor.  My primary care physician thinks I should and if he starts singing kumbyyah - I should feel free to leave.  Theorectically tho' he might be able to help with the pain control.  Hope this finds all of you well.  Family reunion coming up this weekend and hoping to see lots of you there.  Love, Mary
