Mary Regina (Metzger) Massner, 69, of Sperry, passed away at 12:52 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2020, at Great River Medical Center.
She was born at home during a snowstorm on March 22, 1951 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jacob & Elsie (Dietrich) Metzger. She had a loving stepmother Donna Dell. Mary graduated in 1969 from Central Lyon High School. She received her LPN and went on to get her RN degree from the University of South Dakota Vermillion in 1989. She married Lloyd Massner January 23, 2000 in Lester, Iowa.
She worked as a Registered Nurse in Oncology and Home Health Care. Mary was a member of the Burlington Apostolic Christian Church. She was Baptized in 1967 at the age of 16.
Mary exhibited a servant heart which blessed all who knew her. Many enjoyed the fruits of her wonderful cooking, and there was always room on her lap for children. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening and helping her husband on the farm. Above all she desired to serve the Lord with her life.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd Massner; his daughters, Carolyn (Leroy) Wulf of Sperry, IA, Deyona (Wayne) Streitmatter of Brimfield, IL, Jana (Jerome) Metzger of Rock Rapids, IA, and Karla (David) Eberhardt of Sperry, IA; twenty three grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Eugene (Dolores) Metzger, Dale (Chris) Metzger, Eleanor Popkes, Barbara Reutter, William (Charlotte) Metzger, Marvin (Joleen) Metzger, Margene (David) Peasley all of Rock Rapids, IA and Jane (Wayne) Klotzle of Rittman, OH; a brother-in law, Jim Moser of Beaver Creek, MN; step-brother Donn (Joyce) Moser; step-sister Beth (Gary) Metzger of Larchwood, IA and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a dear step-mother, Donna Moser (Metzger); a sister, Linda Moser; an infant sister, Eileen; two brother in-laws, Edward Popkes and Alfred Reutter; and a nephew, Chad Popkes.
The Funeral service for Mary will be at the Burlington Apostolic Christian Church 10:00 AM Friday, November 6, 2020. The ministers of the church will officiate. Interment will be Apostolic Christian Cemetery, rural Oakville, Iowa. Friends may call after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday November 5th, the family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday November 5, 2020 at Lunning Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for Burlington Apostolic Christian Church.
