John and Elisabeth, I am saddened to learn of Mary Jean’s passing. She was a treasured nursing colleague—supportive in all ways to her clinical education team, smart and creative and persistent in her approach to challenges, willing to listen and adapt when she became the leader of an established and seasoned group of educators. A consummate nursing professional! I am so very sorry for your loss.

Dear John & Elisabeth - my heart was so heavy reading this news about your Beloved Wife & Mother. I didn't know her but felt like I did through her beautiful writing. She came to my mind all the time but this past week a lot and I'd been praying that she had been relieved of the pain she was experiencing which sounded awful. :-( And on my way to work this morning on the bus, I read your sad but beautifully written note, Elisabeth (you are indeed your momma's daughter). I just send all my love to you and your Dad (your sweet father delivered my twin daughters 16 years ago and I've been Blessed to have reconnected with him the last couple of years) for Peace & Comfort in these next days. You will all be in my Prayers. I know Mary Jean and your Grandmoother too, are looking down on you all with so much love. Blessings. Tina & Family

Hi Elisabeth, I am Michele Uhl. I graduated from Mount Carmel a year ahead of your mother. We lived on the same floor at one point and served on the Ohio Student Nurses Association together. I loved spending time with her. I am wondering if you and your father are aware of the Nurses Honor Guard? The Nurses Honor Guard pays tribute to nurses at the time of their death by performing the Nightingale Tribute at the funeral or memorial service. This service is similar to a military tribute and officially releases the nurse from their nursing duties. Columbus has a chapter and the facilitator is a Mount Carmel grad. Her name is Alyson Evans. I don’t have her phone number, but can contact her via Facebook or LinkedIn. If you are interested, there are videos of the ceremony on YouTube. You can contact me at michele.uhl@hotmail.com or call/text at 513-703-6141 if you want more info.

Elizabeth, thank you for sharing. Your mom was a treasure and I'm honored to call her a friend. She will be deeply missed. I won't be able to make the trip to Ohio, but will be there in spirit. Wishing you, your dad, and family and friends strength and healing.
