Mary’s Story

Site created on May 8, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Mary Fairfield. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and  are not requesting financial support, just your words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Mary Fairfield, wife of Rick Kline,  went to the ER on 5/3/18 after experiencing numbness on the right side of her body and headaches for a couple of days.  She was originally diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor by the local hospital but that was not the end of the story.  She traveled to Mayo for a second opinion and learned that miracles happen in Rochester, Minnesota, thanks to a brilliant surgeon named Dr. Terrence Burns and his amazing team.  On 5/18/2018,  she had a successful surgery that removed 90% of the tumor followed by a 6-week radiation/chemo treatment plan at Mayo.   Phase 2 of treatment is now complete with 6 months of chemo that ended 3/26/19.  She would so appreciate your leaving a comment for her on this site.  Mary wants you to know that she is focused on being positive and she feels a great peace that she knows is from the prayers and love coming her way.

Journal entry by Rick Kline

The Winter Solstice - December 21st - Most people think of this as the “shortest” day of the year. But I choose to think of this day as the the end of a season, a day of rest, and then the beginning of a new season. A season where the sunlight gets longer each day. The sun gets warmer. The earth slowly wakes up to reveal His greatest glory of nature. It’s only fitting that this is the day that Mary is called home to live in God’s glory forever. Her new journey in heaven begins and it only gets better and better.

I want to thank all of you that have followed Mary’s journey for the last 20 months. The words of encouragement and the prayers lifted served as a source of strength and inspiration to both of us. While we were always hopeful for a miracle, we knew from day one that the the odds were long and ultimately is was in God’s hands. As this horrible disease progressed, Mary always had a sense of peace knowing that her ultimate destination was the glory of heaven. She is at peace now, in a better place, free of pain.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14: 1 - 3
