Mary Beth’s Story

Site created on March 26, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using this website to keep family and friends updated in one place. On March 25th, we heard the devastating news that some questionable spots were spotted on a mammogram and have since been confirmed as being cancerous. The formal diagnosis is Ductal Invasive Carcinoma. We know that we have an awesome network of people lifting our family up. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. There is a tab at the top that will allow you to write "Well Wishes" to Mary Beth and our family as well. As always, we would love prayers during this difficult time because we know that there is power in prayer and that God's got this!

Journal entry by Andre Barkholz

Hello family and friends!

It’s been a while since we’ve posted so I thought I would catch everyone up. Recovering from surgery has been a process both physically and emotionally. There are good days and bad days but it’s getting much better. I’m feeling stronger and able to do most things which is a huge blessing! I’ve been doing physical therapy to get my range of motion back. This will enable me to begin radiation on Dec 10.

I will have treatment 5 days a week and it will end on Jan 22.

We will be staying in Kalamazoo during this time other than Dan coming back to Edmore for church and work responsibilities. We are so thankful to friends from our former church that are allowing us to stay in their home in Portage which is just around the corner from our daughter! We look forward to spending some (safe and socially distanced) time with our family over Christmas which is always the best medicine!!

Things to pray for:

*Minimal side affects from radiation.

*Safe travel to and from Kalamazoo and treatments each day.

*All of the cancer to be GONE!!

*Our church (and all churches) to be able to navigate through this Advent season in these very crazy times.

*Pray that we don’t get overwhelmed.

We continue to be lifted up and humbled by all of you wonderful people! We wish you a very Merry Christmas full of the hope of Jesus!
