Mary B.’s Story

Site created on June 5, 2018

On May 2nd, Mom drove herself to the hospital because of back pain and nausea, only to find out from several scans that her Breast Cancer from 2011 had returned.       After spending a week in a hospital in Naples and three additional weeks in the University of Miami hospital, she is now at Meredith's home in Weston, FL.  She has been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer and stage four brain cancer.  After completing three weeks of brain radiation, Mary has decided not to move forward with any other treatments.  A tumor that was found on her spinal cord has caused numbness to her arms, hands and legs, creating difficulty in daily activities.  She is resting          comfortably at Meredith's home with the support of hospice.  Mom loves receiving cards and notes and her faith continues to bring her much peace and joy. We will     continue to update her condition on Caringbridge.org.  Please feel free to leave any comments you wish to have read to her.  Thank you for all your love and support.   Love, Mary Hagan's Family

Journal entry by Carolyn Wilson

A rainbow is God's solemn promise to Noah that in the midst of a storm or tragedy, He will always be with us.

As Carolyn and I left Meredith's home several weeks ago, saying our good-byes to Mary, we saw a perfectly complete rainbow arching overhead!  We knew it was a sign from God that Mary will always be with us!

Mary's life was a rainbow:

The Red represents the joy Mary gave each of us.  It shows her unwavering compassion and empathy for each of her relationships in life!

The Orange reflects her creativity through her gracious hospitality, her love of decorating and creating the perfect table, home and lovely flower arrangements!  We were all beneficiaries of that endless Grace!

Yellow radiates the grace of happiness and that unforgettable laughter which she spread daily in her life!  Her laughter is forever etched in our memories!

Green demonstrates her longing for harmony through all paths of her life.  Her remarkable ability to forgive and move forward despite the circumstances gives us courage for living our own lives.

Blue shows her faith and spirituality as she faced her storms----especially that of death!  We talked about heaven as a field of flowers with music and birds singing and people living in divine peace and love!  Mary is now one of those angels in Heaven!

Violet is the infinity of love Mary gave her family as well as the children who benefited from her skills as a speech pathologist and her vast array of friends throughout the world!  Now she is spreading that love in her Heavenly home!

The rainbow symbolism is powerful as it reminds us of the endless possibilities God gives to each of us! Our lives are forever enhanced by Mary's Rainbow Legacy!

We love you, sweet Mary!
