Marty’s Story

Site created on July 10, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Marty has had a tough year to date.  Because of his heart conditions (atrial fib, congestive heart failure, and mitral value issue), he has had 3 cardio versions between April & May, but they didn't stick.  On May 30th he was hospitalized at Hershey Medical Center and was treated for congestive heart failure.  He also had internal bleeding and needed a blood transfusion.  After that hospital stay, he went directly to Hershey Rehabilitation Hospital.  He was there between 2-3 weeks and had made excellent progress to regaining his physical capacity.  He was scheduled to come home on 6/29, but ended up back in the hospital that Thursday.  He presented symptoms of a stroke, but had a very severe urinary tract infection.  We appealed insurance denials to go back to the rehab hospital, but lost that battle.  On 7/10 he was admitted to Masonic Village Homes rehabilitation unit, which is a step-down skilled nursing facility.  This was our first choice because of their stellar reputation.  He got settled in around 5 p.m. and today he'll be seen by doctors and will get his PT, OT, and speech evaluations.  So today is day 43 of Marty being away from home.  We hope Marty can regain his physical capacity to come home in a few weeks.
