Martina’s Story

Site created on November 9, 2021

My world changed when I was diagnosed with advanced Gallbladder Cancer five months ago. Since then, I have had 2 surgical procedures and 5 cycles of chemo. While I am dealing with some of the side effects of the chemo, I have had a great response from the chemo.

Many of you have been asking how I am doing. I am feeling pretty good right now since I have been off chemo. I am preparing for a big surgery on November 18th  in Chicago. It is anticipated that I will spend several days in the hospital. I am hoping to be home for Thanksgiving.

Creating this site will help Mike and I to communicate easier with everyone and provide you with more up to date information. You can also send messages within the site if you would like.

Mike and I really appreciate and would like to thank everyone for all of the prayers, well wishes, and positive thoughts. Keep it coming!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Mike Hartwell

Martina spent the second half of April and all of May under home hospice care after numerous complications since her last update.

This last Monday (three days ago) Martina made the decision that she would be more comfortable in a hospice facility so she was admitted to Kathy Hospice in West Bend.

After a wonderful 37 years together, Martina is nearing the end of her journey as the Lord will be calling her home soon.

Martina was an angel to so many patients in her nursing career, she will soon be an angel watching us from above.
