Journal entry by Marlene Freeman

I had great times with the family over the holidaze.  Nothing is better than family love.

After our last little party at my home, my breathing became much more difficult, which eventually brought me to ER.  A blood clot in my leg moved up into my lungs.  These clots are called pulmonary embolisms (PE's.) They are spread throughout both lungs.  Thankfully, they didn't move to my heart.  WHEW.  I stayed in the hospital for two days.  However, the PE's make breathing much more difficult and painful.  I am managing pain quite well, but can't walk very far or exert w/o pain and shortness of breath.

Kris gives Novamax injections for me which thins the blood so it reduces the likelihood of clots forming.  It takes about three to four months to recover from this due to cancer.  I have oxygen at home so I am back on the 'leash' again.  I will be seeing the oncologist soon.

Although this feels frightening at times thinking that life could easily slip away, it also feels so precious to savor another moment.  I am so grateful for all the help and love I receive from everyone.
