Journal entry by Catherine Schuster —
This is to all of the wonderful friends Mark has cultivated and kept over the years, from McKinley Junior High and Muir High School, from CSU and Fort Collins, from Silverthorn, Evergreen and Denver. And of course, from Maui.
Mark is very ill and I've started this Caring Bridge site to keep everyone who wants to be informed up to date.
If we haven't reached out to you yet directly, it's because Mark is quite weak and doesn't have the energy to talk to everyone he cares about. Or write emails.
His friends Bob Dean (Boulder) and Greg Sheehan (Maui) and Kristen Olson (Aspen) are all actively engaged with helping Mark and helping me help him. Greg especially has been doing the heavy lifting here in Maui, as well as his wife Jen.
I arrived yesterday and it's a joy to be in Mark's beautiful home. Lots of birdsong and a view of the ocean from up here in Kula.
Maui is very strict vis-a-vis Covid so I can't visit him in the hospital, but hopefully he'll be home soon. We need more diagnostic information before we know if some kind of treatment is appropriate or we're looking at palliative care. He has some very difficult choices to make.
If anyone has pictures of Mark they'd like to post from anytime, I would love to post them. I'm only going to post pics of him handsome and healthy.
I'll continue to post. And I would appreciate it if you would ask questions, respond, etc. on this site so I'm not managing a million emails.
