Dear Amy, Olivia and Mia, and the Satkiewicz family –

Mark was an incredible friend and leader and one of the greatest colleagues I have had the privilege of working with. Although our time together at TOMS was brief, the principles he taught and the mentorship he selflessly offered will have a lasting impact on many. Mark gave more to his family and community in his short 50 years than most experience in a lifetime. I will be forever grateful for the time you spent in LA and the community he built here. His light shines so bright and his spirit is with us all.

With deepest sympathies, my heart and prayers are with you all.

Amy: I am so sorry for your loss; he was simply too young and too vital. I met Mark through my role as an outside contractor to SmartWool--and enjoyed a dinner out with you, Mark and the girls during one of my visits. He spoke with such pride and joy for all of you. I also brought my daughter with me on one of my trips and took great delight in her impression of Mark; she called him "Huggy Bear." When I asked her why, she said it was because he was so excited to get up on the mountain with all of us that he gave each person gathering at the base a big bear hug and a "let's go" pat on the back. Mark reached out to me days before he passed; he wanted to connect me with someone he thought could use my help. I wrote to let him know that I'd made contact with his associate, and his characteristic enthusiasm was palpable even on the screen--his email response simply said, "Great!!!!"
There are no words to ease your pain, but I hope your memories and the sea of love surrounding you brings you and the girls some comfort through your grief, Carrie Williams
