Newest Update

Journal entry by Alex Neal

Hi,

I truthfully was not going to update ever again, but soon realized I am not fit for relaying updates to a lot of people individually while my world is falling apart.

There was a bone marrow biopsy done on Monday. They did not get a good enough sample to give any information. The plan after that was to extubate and get a tracheostomy. During the bone marrow biopsy, my dad’s vitals dropped. This led to turning up ventilator settings, back on BP medicine, and more sedation.

On Tuesday, I was told that my dad has developed a staph infection in his blood. He is too unstable to undergo a tracheostomy and he is not breathing well on his own. Unfortunately, extubation is not an option anymore.

Full treatment is still happening, nothing has halted in that aspect. They are doing everything they can to help him fight this blood infection. Making sure they have the best antibiotics, changing his picc, central, arterial, and IV lines, etc. The problem is the doctors are not sure how much longer his heart will last.

I am taking things 30 minutes by 30 minutes, literally. Things change very quickly. His doctors are incredible, bright, and very kind towards me.

I understand it is easy to judge this situation from the outside. I wish I could share every ounce of information I have. Although my updates may be lengthy, they are just a microscopic summary of what I have been told. Please keep that in mind. I will continue to do everything in my power to give my dad a fighting chance on coming back to me, but at the same time, I have to respect his final wishes that he has made clear to me.

Thank you for your support.
