Journal entry by Laura Landgraf

Just a quick update--

My dad was readmitted to the hospital on Wednesday, April 3, because his stomach is not emptying. This is a rather common, but significant, postoperative complication of the Whipple. After 4 attempts over 2 days, the doctors were finally able to insert a feeding tube yesterday so my dad can now receive nutrients. He has been feeling very weak and exhausted so we are hopeful that he will begin to feel better and regain some strength with these nutrients. The doctors expect he could be in the hospital for the next week. Because he is so worn down right now, please check with my mom or me if you are thinking about visiting.

Early this week they will be looking inside his digestive system (and at all the "re-wiring" from the surgery) with a scope to try to identify the issue. At that point, we may know more answers and next steps. Thank you, everyone, for your continued support and love! My mom has been spending hours on end at the hospital with my dad keeping track of everything, so if anyone reaches out to her and she does not respond, it may be because her energy is spent. Please know that even if she does not get back to you, she is reading the messages and appreciates your concern and words of encouragement! Thanks again!
