Marivelle’s Story

Site created on February 22, 2018

Dear friends and family,

About 3 years ago, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, a full panel genetics testing was performed.  As a result, a genetic mutation was found which only recently been identified as CDH1 - a gene that causes gastric cancer.   A subsequent endoscopy this past November produced an official diagnosis of stomach cancer.   I will be undergoing a Total Gastrectomy tomorrow, February 26, 2018, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Thank you all for your abounding prayers, love and support.   I am incredibly grateful.  Conrad will be posting regular updates on this site  to keep everyone informed.

Much love to all,
Marivelle

Newest Update

Journal entry by Marivelle Villanueva

I became dehydrated this past weekend and had to be hooked up to an IV - I didn’t have to go to the ER, thanks to my big brother Bryan who is an amazing nurse!!!

I met with a licensed dietician two days ago. She was concerned that I am not consuming enough calories. My goal is to take in 70 grams of protein a day which is a remarkable feat, considering I’m only on less than 500 calories and about 10 grams of protein currently. She suggested unflavored whey protein that I can mix with my food and drinks and a Bariatrics multi-vitamin which is 4x the potency of a regular multi-vitamin. I started on calcium supplements too and so thankful it’s chewable because the horse pill I was taking before was just too hard to swallow!

I have to take a moment to thank Aunt Barb for letting me know to space out the supplements else the second serving will not get absorbed. Great info!!

This week I’m trying some protein-dense foods suggested by the dietician and so far, no adverse reactions.

Thanks everyone for keeping up with my posts and getting on me when I haven’t done an update. ❤️❤️❤️
