Journal entry by Ashley Newell

The past month has been quite busy for Marissa! As you may know, Marissa and her family met her medical team from Memorial Hermann Cypress which included the ED doctors, nurses, CT tech, respiratory therapist, hospital staff and part of the life-flight crew. Marissa's NICU team helped coordinate this amazing reunion and provided support for Matt the day of the stroke. The Millers also met with the EMT crew who responded to the emergency call. The Miller kids made thank you cards and a goodie basket for all of these special individuals. Marissa was able to share her perspective of the emergency with the EMTs and medical team and also hear their view of the events which of course, included lots of emotion for everyone! The picture is of a write up in the local community magazine.

Marissa recently completed her neuropsychological testing which evaluates intelligence, executive functions, attention, memory, language, perception, sensorimotor functions, motivation, mood state, emotion, quality of life and personality. The results will help determine areas of focus for therapy and return to work skills.

The Trans-esophageal Echocardiogram was completed and confirmed that Marissa has a PFO (small opening in her heart) which will require surgical closure. Her medical team has determined it will be best to proceed with the polyp removal (polyps are in her throat) first which is scheduled for Friday, May 7.  She will be on vocal rest for a week following the polyp removal surgery.   The heart procedure to close the PFO is currently scheduled for 5/25.

Please continue to pray for Marissa and all of the Millers as she has these upcoming procedures.  We continue to thank the Lord for His continual blessings and provision!
