Marianne’s Story

Site created on July 25, 2019

As a dear friend I would like to welcome you to Marianne Werschke's  CaringBridge website. As many of you already know, on July 10th, Marianne was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage 3 or 4. This  news blindsided her and her husband Dick, as well as her  family, friends and the many who love her dearly.  A treatment plan was quickly put in place by her doctor’s.

Marianne had a biopsy this past Monday (pending results) and started chemotherapy today. As of now, she will have three chemotherapy treatments to shrink the tumor and then have surgery to remove the tumor...she will then follow with three more chemo therapy treatments. This treatment plan potentially might change depending on the results of the biopsy.

Marianne is approaching this with some understandable apprehension but with the certainty that she is in the hands of her Heavenly Father.  Marianne’s faithful heart allows her to find strength, have times of peace and trust in God

We have decided to use this site to help keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, words of hope, love and encouragement. Marianne has humbly done so much for so many others, it is now our turn to love and pray for her and her family. For now the family is asking for prayers, should any additional needs arise, we will reach out to her village of love! Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Dick Werschke

It is hard to believe I have not updated you since November, but I haven't.  That is actually good news because if I had updated you it probably would be because things were not going according to plan.  But now I can give you an update that is very positive.

Marianne had her last chemo infusion on New Years' Eve.  Her reaction was the mildest she has had so far.  Then we just had to wait a month for a scan and another week to hear the results.

The results were good!  The doctor was very happy with the results of chemo, as were we.   Dr. Shah, said, although there was one small lesion still on the liver he didn't think any further treatments were necessary at this time.  There are some drugs available that might help, but then again they might not. The testing of these drugs is ongoing and no clear benefits have been found.  So for now Marianne will just go in for an exam every three months.  If the cancer becomes active again we can treat it with drugs at that time.

Thanks so much for your prayers but also for your care and concern.   Just before Marianne went in for her scan results she reread every single card (and there were many) that she had received.  Those cards meant a great deal to both of us.

God is good, Dick
