Margaret’s Story

Site created on September 4, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Margaret grew up with a passion for learning other cultures and languages. Combine that with her response to God’s love for her through the power of reading his word high school, and growth through college, she ended up working 29 years as an overseas Bible translator & global trainer. She trained national translators in New Caledonia for 4 years, where her beloved firstborn Jonathan was born, and also worked for 4 years in Cameroon, Africa, for the speakers of the Mkaa’ language.

Margaret loves teaching – ‘equipping people’ - which took her from being a high school art and French teacher, to homeschooling her son and daughter in the jungle of Cameroon, to 10 years of coordinating a global train-the-trainer program that is now translated into about 15 languages.

After working in New Caledonia and before Cameroon, she attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where her precious daughter was born, and she earned their Bible Translation Award upon graduation.

In later years she worked seven years at 7-Eleven headquarters, in charge of their operations training, driven to make the training respectful to the store operators and how they prefer to learn.

More recently, Margaret has turned her attention to self-employment as an Airbnb superhost so she can have more time to volunteer. She loves meeting the myriad guests that come her way from around the world, and has incorporated some of them into her extended family!

She has volunteered by helping her pastor develop a “transformation” adult growth class, helping a non-profit develop a program for traumatized refugee children in Germany and elsewhere, teaching Christian business people in China how to train others to multiply their ministries, welcoming local international university students into family activities, and welcoming and teaching English to local refugees.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Margaret Bean

Dear friends and family,

Quick evening update:
Friday, I found out that my scans show no new cancer growth, so I can continue on maintenance chemo!
I was concerned this time, due to my coughing and increased pleural pain. But, though the cancer is still there, it's not growing - it's stable!

Interestingly, the Dr said my sinus congestion showed up on my brain MRI! Even though the infection is gone, the congestion is still there (and in my chest). Please pray that clear up. Some of my cough is from lung scarring, but it would be nice if the rest of it clear up (and the scarring cough calm down).

So, I'm off to Chicago tomorrow for another every-3-weeks round of chemo. I tend to be fine for 2 days after chemo, then am pretty tired with a low fever for a few days, then just fatigued for a few more.

I feel so fortunate - for the health and time I'm given, feeling the Lord with me, and the love of my family and friends.

I'd like to close with the prayer my church had for this Palm Sunday:
Almighty and ever-living God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
