Mallory’s Story

Site created on April 20, 2020

Welcome to my Caringbridge page!!   After being diagnosed with breast cancer on March 5, Dan and I have been bombarded with love from family and friends.  I am therefore making an effort to share thoughts, stories, and information as we seek to kick its butt.   To my love bullies: thank you.   I do hope I can pay it forward.

Journal entry by Mallory Leblanc

Hi everyone!  I'll keep this one quick.  I am home with a brand new pacemaker wire and generator!  I do have a new scar, which was a surprise, but I guess ol' pacey had migrated south, necessitating a second incision to hook up the wire to the vein to the generator (I dunno, I was pretty stoned when they explained it).

I'm sore but doing quite well otherwise.  I have great friends who are keeping me full of goodies.

The Medtronic reps who rounded on me said they have seen ejection fractions (or EF, an indicator of ventricular function and a predictor of mortality) rebound by as much as 20% with the placement of left ventricular lead.  My EF is about 40% (we want 55-75), so if I had that outcome, my EF would be just below normal range and much less scary...so let's all hope!

My amazing husband has been playing mom, dad, nurse, psychiatrist, dog wrangler, and waiter.  He's also got a demanding job to manage.  I am deeply appreciative and humbled by his kindness.  It's hard to face the fact that I might not be quite so magnanimous if the roles were reversed.  I hope they never are.

Thanks for ALL the well wishes; I feel basked in love!

xoxo
