Malik’s Story

Site created on April 20, 2019

For all of Malik’s life he has been a warrior against the fight with Sickle Cell Disease. A temporary solution for the painful crisis has been IV pain medication, IV fluids, and blood transfusions. We are excited to announce his journey to end this fight. Malik is receiving a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant this summer. There have already been 11 matches located on the donor registry. We are grateful for this miracle and solicit your prayers for every step of the way!

There’s an emotion void I have not been able to fill for Malik. The void comes from his biological father, paternal grandmother, and biological sisters being absent in every way during Malik’s journey to a cure. The financial burden of the miracle is the least of why I hurt behind this. Malik doesn’t think he is loved by them and this feeling is causing him to harbor anger and resentment. My prayer is that they will learn how to SHOW love. I will never doubt the live they have for my son, but he refuses to believe it exists because of their absence. The journey is far from over so they have plenty of time to get on board and contribute. Then there’s always a chance they still won’t even call to see how he’s doing...
