Madison’s Story

Site created on September 23, 2021

In September 21, Madison was found unresponsive in her dorm room at St. Norbert by one of her suite mates. She was taken by ambulance to Aurora Baycare.  They determined she had suffered a stroke from a blood clot in her brain and needed surgery to remove it. The surgery was successful however the doctor said the left side of her brain suffered a lot of damage.

We are creating this page to keep everyone updated on her story and her progress.

Madison UPDATE:
WE ARE HOME!!! (Insert cheers!!) Yes, we were discharged today!!! No, we still don’t know the cause and we may never know the cause. According to Dr. Darkhabani, 25% of stroke patients never know the cause of their stroke. Of those 25%, Harvard did a study and followed those patients for 5-10 years. They were able to find the cause in 83% of them and the cause was almost always related to the heart. So…here we are. She has an external heart monitor that she has to wear for 30 days and we will go from there!!

She starts speech therapy right away tomorrow. And she has a plethora of specialists she has to see: neurologist, cardiologist, hematologist, pulmonologist, not to mention her rehab dr and her primary care dr once a week for the near future. (If I counted correctly, it’s like 9 therapists and dr’s.)

That’s all for now!!
