Madelynn’s Story

Site created on November 4, 2019

Madelynn was in the back seat laying down on her phone, no seatbelt ( which saved her life ) she was ejected out of the car and knocked unconscious. If she was in her seatbelt, she would have been crushed. She suffered a fractured spleen which is bleeding and as of now they are just watching. Her right femur was broke and she will have surgery maybe tomorrow to put a metal rod in. She also has a severe concussion. She is sedated heavily because of pain and her spleen and femur. She has a tube breathing for her, but they think once they wake her up and take the tube out they feel confident she can breathe on her own. She has no mental or brain or spine deficits on any kind on her scans. Her blood pressure is a little low. She has been responsive with wiggling her toes.

Journal entry by Sarah Peverill

Today has been full of ups and downs, first we were told she would have her MRI at 8am this morning. Then 1pm. Then, finally 2:30 she went back. She wasn’t back until around 6 from her MRI. The neurologist wants to look it over and make sure everything’s okay neurologically. We are praying for extubation tomorrow after she passes a few tests to make sure she can breathe on her own.

Her spleen is shattered, but they aren’t going to do anything surgically for it. They are hoping it just won’t cause problems and at this time all that is being done is getting her a few extra vaccines to make sure her immune system can function without her spleen.

Goodnight all, thanks for the continued prayers and good wishes. Again, feel free to send cards and letters and stuff. She cannot have any balloons or life planes or flowers while in the Intensive Care Unit.
