Journal entry by Amy Owen —
Hello to so many of you who have loved and prayed for our family through this time of great loss and mourning. Last Saturday marked one month since mom's passing. It has been an emotionally intense time for all of us. Andrew flew back to Oregon to be with Ciara and to start preparing for the new school year (with all it's COVID implications!), Maria flew to London to be with me for 3 weeks to accompany me during my first month of starting chemo and Shep and Dad and the boys stayed in Virginia. Shep hosted KK and Matti's first cousins for a week which was a welcome distraction and break for the boys. Dad has been busy communicating with friends around the world and wrapping up all of the horrible paperwork that accompanies the death of a loved one. It has been a hard month for everyone.
We are grateful for your ongoing prayers and support. There is still no current plans for an in person memorial for mom due to COVID, but when plans are updated or changed we will let people know. Dad will spend a few weeks of September in Oregon with Andrew and Ciara. He'll come to be with me for a few weeks in October. We are all hoping that we might be able to all be together for Christmas in Kenya but it will depend on many factors --including COVID and the timing and progress of my chemo treatments.
For those who wish to follow my journey-- I have a Caringbridge site as well called "Hakuna-Ma-Tatas". Or you can just google "Caringbirdge Amy Owen".
Thank you again for your prayers and support. They are not in vain. We continue to hold on to Psalm 23 which mom so dearly loved. God is indeed our Shepherd, now and always.
