When reading historical accounts, I am challenged also, when I consider all the personal losses of family members close to them that believers throughout history commonly experienced. I think it is very helpful to see the wider context of our lives in the narrative of history. I love the way the same Scripture speaks to the issue of suffering and encourages us to persevere, in this present age looking to our future hope, just as it did for the early church - it bonds us together with them.
